After washing out of pilot training, Robert Tank served as a B-17 bombardier with the 364th Bomb Squadron of the 305th Bomb Group, 8th Air Force during World War II. His plane was shot down on Nov. 26, 1943 and Robert became a POW at Stalag Luft 1.
